Apple Cheddar Scones

Ingredients

  • 7 tablespoons butter (cold)
  • 1 apple diced
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2/3 and 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (added seperately)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

 

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Saute apples, 1 tablespoon of butter, and 1 tablespoon of sugar then let cool.
  3.  Combine flour, 2/3 cup shredded cheese, baking powder, salt, pepper, and remaining sugar.
  4. Cut in butter until mixture resembles course crumbs.
  5. With fork, stir in buttermilk until moistened. 
  6. Stir in apples.
  7. Kneed on floured surface and shape into 9 inch square.
  8. Cut into 8 wedges, brush with water, and sprinkle with cheese.
  9. Place on baking sheet 2 inches apart. Bake for 18-20 minutes.
