Ingredients
- 7 tablespoons butter (cold)
- 1 apple diced
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 2/3 and 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (added seperately)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Saute apples, 1 tablespoon of butter, and 1 tablespoon of sugar then let cool.
- Combine flour, 2/3 cup shredded cheese, baking powder, salt, pepper, and remaining sugar.
- Cut in butter until mixture resembles course crumbs.
- With fork, stir in buttermilk until moistened.
- Stir in apples.
- Kneed on floured surface and shape into 9 inch square.
- Cut into 8 wedges, brush with water, and sprinkle with cheese.
- Place on baking sheet 2 inches apart. Bake for 18-20 minutes.
